This is sort of similar to the topic of your inspiration (to me, at least), but where do you get most of your writing done?

Most of my early writings were from my senior year of high school, and mostly were done in class there.

Lately, though, I usually go out in the "backyard" (more like an open back patio), and usually around 1am or so, and sit out there and write.

I've been doing this for about a week or so now, and some of the poems I wrote last night are a result of that environment.

Darkness is almost a meta-poem, written about me sitting out back under a streetlight, writing.

The other one inspired by the spot was Begin the Night, which I got the idea for when I looked up and saw the moon hanging in the sky (it's also partly due to the music I was listening to, like I Love the Night by Blue Oyster Cult).

I'm more of a night person as well. I keep a notebook by my bedside and often write to the light of my cell phone (haha, its very interesting clicking it every few seconds so the light reappears). Otherwise...yeah, whenever I'm inspired. My big thing is the right pen and a good notebook. :)
What is love? Baby don't hurt me, don't hurt me no more.

I find that almost any place will start me going once I get the first line in my mind. Then it is a case of grabbing a piece of paper or anything which I can write on and scribbling it down. Enter and polish it on the PC later.

The way I usually get started writing (after long breaks between periods of writing) is that the first line or two of a poem will come into my head.

There have been plenty of times when a good idea has been lost simply because I didn't have a chance to write it down when I thought about; on the other hand, there are a good number of ideas that never got past that stage, because I wrote down the idea but never got around to finishing it.

I find the environment in which I'm writing has a huge impact on the writing, most of the time. During my last writing burst, several of the poems I wrote were inspired by the place I was when I was writing, and if I weren't in an isolated, quiet place, I don't think I would have written any of them.

I'm definately a night person too. When I feel like writing I'll sit down with a notebook or at the computer and start to 'finish' some of the pieces in my "poems in progress" file on my computer. The original idea for all of mine though start with a pen/pencil and paper and then get finalized in the computer to put them in stanzas with spacing that fits and fix grammar and do some punctuation.

I also go through writing bursts where I write a bunch of new stuff and finish a several of my started pieces and then have a creative dry spell for a while.

Nice to hear what others think and what kinds of things we all have in common.

I usually start mulling around ideas in my head, and eventually, lines of poetry start coming together. What I end up is usually a lot different than what I was first thinking, but usually comes out better.
There's not really any particular spot where I write, since I usually don't expressly try to write poetry. I don't think it would work well if I did.

More likely, where don't I. A more appropriate offering might be stated like this:
"Where do you think?"

or:

"In what circumstances does your mind begin to think poetically or in some other form of inspiration?"

But to answer more directly, I carry pen and pad everywhere. In relation to what I write, I post very little. And I have posted many thousands in various places under various names.
