Tall, slender, and calm in her way.
She was a jewel of the Eurasian persuasion.

It rained that night in August.
The glare of it minced my view.

Her gin-soaked lapel caught my eye...and that 'pin'.
Or was it her double-breasted suit?

I reached for that 'icon' of interest slowly.
The anticipation of a slap never leaving me.
(I guess I'm just a puritan at heart)

It was a character of oriental design.
Within an exquisite setting, an emerald rested.

I looked at her face, her eyes were closed.
She had the look of a child, though middle-aged.

It was raining harder now.

I raised her lifeless form up and into my arms.
I carried her to my car and set her in the seat.

It was then that I knew something was different.
It was the emerald....it was glowing brighter!

I placed my finger upon it, and as I did...she moved!

Her eyes slowly opened and peered into my own.
Her lips gently parted, revealing brilliantly white teeth.
Her fingers delicately extended as her arm rose ever-so slightly.

I stared in disbelief at this beautiful creature.
Hypnotized by her seeming resurrection, I sat still as death.
Suddenly then, and without any previous warning at all.....

Slap!

I guess she knew I was no puritan after all.

I gave her a lift to the morgue and went home to Ma's cooking.
I thought I'd surprise her with this new emerald pin I bought for her.
She loves oriental as much as I do.

Maybe more.
