I've been looking back at most of the poetry I've written, and realized that most of it was written over a few months back when I was in high school (three to four years ago). Most of my poetry seems to focus on my (now ex-) girlfriend, and the later stuff, the newer incomplete stuff, and the new ideas I have, are generally related to the breakup and to a feeling of being alone.

I guess I would call that my inspiration for poetry (my other writing is a lot different).

What inspires you to write poetry? Is there any event or something that is a common theme to your work, and if so, why?

Inquiring minds would like to know :)

I don't know if I have anything I could consistently call an inspiration. I usually spontaneously get an idea for something in my head and start writing from there.

I'm with Lerins on this one. No one thing really ever is the inspiration for me. I write when I get an idea or when my thoughts or feelings about an person or subject just need venting. I guess though emotional turmoil of some kind has usually been the start of the poems that I consider my best ones, but they don't really have a central subject matter overall.
