Vials of laughter
stored in her drawer,
along with the memories.

A small cedar box rested upon the bureau.
Contained within it were her locket and brooch.

The note on the bedside table was brief.
It mentioned her decision.
No gifts or reparations were made.
She married once.
Divorced once.
It wasn't a lasting union.
It lasted only long enough to leave it.

She denied herself the pleasures of sex.
She never valued it as a means of cohesion.
It was simply a motion one goes through to conceive,
though the only conception she was in agreement with
was the concept of not conceiving.

Until now...
