Time does not count;
it stretches out innumerably.
But as we grow older
and the years grow short
time becomes more precious.

Time does not count
when we can look forward
to a lifetime. When we
are children: and school holidays
last forever, and not just a month;
and the summer is interminable

It stretches out innumerably;
and the wait for Christmas
or a birthday, seems not
just a few weeks, but years.
Like waiting to be old enough
to ride a bike alone.

But as we grow older
the days shorten down;
the weeks rush along.
Birthdays flash past
'till suddenly we find
it is time to retire.

And the years grow short
whilst the time flies by.
So much to be done;
yet such little time left
as our frames grow weaker
and our bodies more frail.

Time becomes more precious,
as life draws to a close;
and still so much left
that we should have done;
but could not do, as time condensed
until at last the endings come.

Let us pray at the end
our friends will say;
?They did their best
with what they had.?

I tried this idea of using the first verse as a sort of precis.
then repeating it as the leading line of each verse, then expanding the thought behind it
Did it work?

I think it worked out well; it's certainly very clever. Nice poem!

Thanks Phil, I did one some years ago now something like it, but ! do you think I can find it. HA - It was back in the days of gas powered typewriters when I made as many mistakes doing corrections as there was in my original.
Why didn't they invent PCs back when I was young enough to really learn how to get the best from them?
[Now I come to think I did two - I must hunt them down]
