Sorry for the lack of news and such on my part lately; work has been quite soul-draining, among other things.

Anyway, PoetsQuill should be moving to a new server sometime this week. While it should just be a simple matter of basically flipping a switch, there will probably be a little bit of time when the new server is running, but you would still be connecting to the old server. I'll try to make sure that anything posted or submitted to the old site finds it way to the new one.

While we don't anticipate any problems, there's always a chance that something could go wrong. So, if you can't reach the site for a day or two, it doesn't mean we're gone, just in the middle of the transition.

And now for some updates as to what the future holds. I hesitate to make any definite promises, since I always seem to lose motivation as soon as I do, but I am working on redesigning the site. It should have the same look, in general, but things should just work better inside and out.

Since I wish I'd heard about this earlier last year, I feel I should pass it along to anyone who's interesting. NaNoWriMo (short for National Novel Writing Month) is basically a challenge to write a 50,000 word novel in one month (from November 1 to November 30). There are prizes for actually doing it, but I look at it more as a kick in the pants to get writing, even if 50,000 words is too many for you.

Is anyone else planning giving this a shot this year?

As you have probably noticed, things have been awfully quiet around here lately. For me, things have been very busy lately (I graduated from college at the end of May, took a few weeks away from any sort of responsibility), and then moved out on my own and started a full-time job. Unfortunately, this means that I don't have as much free time as I used to, and I often find myself not wanted to do anything productive. As a result, I haven't touched any of my personal projects in a while, which is unfortunate.

The good news is that I'm starting to fall into a routine, which means that I'm getting better at managing my time, so I should be able to start working on things (like this site) again. Within the next month or so, I hope to unveil a new look for the site along with an entirely new backend that should make things easier for everyone.

On that note, I'm looking for a few good people to help me out with some things. Firstly, I'm looking for someone who can help out with getting the site's name out there once things are back in full swing. Second, I'm looking for one or two people who are interesting as acting as moderators for the forums (since I can't always check them as often as I'd like, and there have been problems in the past with people misusing the forum. In case you didn't already know, April is National Poetry Month. Around here at PoetsQuill, we've got some special features planned for the month. For one, I'm getting back on a poetry kick, so I'm going to be submitting a lot more (with some prose thrown in too).
Another thing we're going to do is feature a poem every few days (roughly twice a week). Featured poems will be listed on the front page (http://poetsquill.aodnetwork.com) and and featured here in the forums.
I'm also hoping to add a few new features to the site, and I'll announce those once they've been tested and added.

For those who are interested, RSS feeds are now available for poetry and prose.

Each feed shows up to the 20 most recent approved submissions, along with the date/time it was submitted. The feed is updated every half hour, so don't bother trying to get it more often than that.

After a long while, it's finally possible to comment on submitted works. If you're registered and logged in, you should see the input area when you view a submission.

It's a new feature, and while it's fairly straightforward, something might still not work right. If you run into any problems, please contact me and let me know what isn't working.

This isn't new, but I didn't announce it, but you can choose to list submissions by author or by title, in addition to the date they were submitted. This should make it easier to find what you're looking for until a search function is added.

As you've probably noticed, the site has been quite stagnant lately. There have been a few submissions (almost entirely by Josienthepussycats, who I thank greatly for her contributions) but other than that, not really much activity.

I feel I should try and explain why, and give an update on what's planned. For me, it's summer vacation from school, and that means that I'm working, which ironically ends up sucking more time than school does. Generally, when I get home from work I'm sick of typing (which is what I do all day) and I don't get much work done on anything. I also haven't had the creative bend to write much lately, at least, nothing coherent or interesting.

So several of the things I've been meaning to do for months remain undone. Things such as a links section, book reviews, and some serious advertising efforts have fallen by the wayside for now. I also haven't been sending out a newsletter, which I keep telling myself I should do.

Those things are the most important that I want to get done in the near future. I have some fuzzy longer-term plans that need more thinking-out, but for now, that's where I and the site stand. I hope to start up on some of these things really soon (in the next few weeks, if not sooner) and I would love to have some feedback from you about what you like, what you don't like, what you feel should be changed, etc.

I'm not sure if anyone noticed this, but there was a problem with registering whereby you could register and submit things, but not be able to post on the forums. This has now been fixed, and the records for those affected have been updated, so everyone should be able to post now.
